Documentaries

WEEK 1

  • How is the progress of your production coming along so far? What scenes have been filmed? – So far, my production is coming along nicely. I have all the things I need to do set out and planned, and there hasn’t seemed to be any issues.
  • Do your film scene support the pre-production planning that was completed in Week 10? If not, why? – So far everything that I had planned has gone fairly smoothly, so it does follow what I had down in week 10.
  • What challenges have you faced? How did you resolve these issues. – I did have issues where the players couldn’t meet with me due to AFL restrictions, but it has been resolved by the players sending me their interview answers. And if any reason they can’t get it done, then I have South Freo players I can interview.
  • How would you rate your progress/work ethic out of 10? Provide reasons for your answer. – I’d say a solid 7-8 out of 10. This is because I haven’t filmed most of what I need to, but I have planned to have it done.
  • What documentary conventions have you successfully incorporated into your production? How have you achieved this? – Interview, voice over, digetic + non digetic sound, archival footage, graphics, establishing shot.
  • What are your concerns going into next week and the final stages of the production? – I don’t have too many concerns to be honest, other than doing the editing side of things but it should be easier than the music video editing

WEEK 2

  • How is the progress of your production coming along now that you have been back at school for 2 weeks? – The progress is coming along well. I have gotten a good grasp on what editing techniques I’m adding, and I have gotten a start to the complex technique that I am using.
  • Has all your filming been completed? If not, why? How will you rectify this? – No, I am finishing my filming next Monday, where I am completing my interviews. There has been trouble figuring a date to do them due to the COVID restrictions for the players, but now that they have eased, we can finally do them.
  • What challenges have you faced? How did you resolve these issues. – Again, the challenges that I faced was sorting a time to do interviews, but we have resolved them with South Fremantle and players.
  • How would you rate your progress/work ethic out of 10? Provide reasons for your answer. – 8/10. Due to not being able to film, I feel I got a step ahead on the editing – whether it was planning, or getting a start. I just need to finish the production statement which I have gotten a start to.
  • Name one new editing technique that you are going to incorporate with your documentary? Provide a video or image to demonstrate how this will be achieved in your final edit?  – I will be trying to do a iPhone holographic, to show racist comments. The effect is used to show key issue of racism, while catching the eye of the viewer, and adds some more entertainment.
  • What are your concerns going into next week and the final stages of the production? – I don’t have any particular concerns for next week, I feel as if I have it under control. The biggest issue next week will probably be time management and doing things fairly fast.
